AI-assisted coding

Using artificial intelligence tools to generate, complete, or suggest software code.

AI-assisted coding is the use of artificial intelligence tools to generate, complete, or suggest software code. These tools can speed up first drafts, boilerplate, tests, and refactoring, but they do not guarantee that the output is correct, secure, or suitable for production.

In cyber security, the main risk is that machine-generated code may introduce weak authentication, insecure defaults, logic errors, or unsafe dependencies if it is accepted without review. Attackers can also use the same tools to write phishing kits, malware loaders, or exploit proof-of-concepts more quickly. Defenders use AI-assisted coding for detection rules, scripts, and internal tooling, but they still treat the output as untrusted until it passes testing, code review, and security checks. Good controls include least privilege for any automation, logging for changes, and validation against expected behavior.
