An AGV, or Automated Guided Vehicle, is a driverless machine used to move materials through a warehouse, factory, or other industrial site. It may follow markers, wires, maps, or software-defined routes, and it often connects to fleet-management systems, wireless networks, sensors, and charging stations.
In cyber security, AGVs matter because they turn software problems into physical disruption. If an attacker alters routes, disables control systems, abuses remote access, or tampers with updates, the result can be blocked aisles, missed deliveries, collisions, or safety shutdowns. Defenders therefore treat AGVs as OT assets and protect them with network segmentation, strong authentication, logging, patch governance, vendor controls, and tested recovery procedures. In practice, securing an AGV means securing the full chain around it: controllers, communications, maintenance tools, and the processes that keep it moving safely.
