Agentless security

A way to inspect cloud environments without installing software on each host.

Agentless security is a way to inspect cloud environments without installing software on each host or workload. Instead, a security platform connects to cloud APIs and control-plane data to read account settings, identities, permissions, network routes, storage policies, and other configuration details from outside the environment.

This matters because it reduces deployment effort and avoids the operational overhead of managing agents across many servers, containers, or accounts. In cyber security, agentless tools are often used for posture management, vulnerability discovery, and attack-path analysis. They help defenders see how separate weaknesses can combine into a realistic route an attacker might use, such as an excessive permission paired with an exposed service. The same approach can support faster triage by grouping repeated misconfigurations and highlighting the issues most likely to lead to compromise.
