Agentic intelligence

AI systems designed to act with some autonomy, making recommendations or taking limited actions based on context.

Agentic intelligence refers to AI systems that can do more than summarize data: they can interpret context, plan next steps, and carry out limited actions with some autonomy. In cyber security, that often means recommending incident response steps, correlating alerts, opening tickets, isolating hosts, or tuning detections under human supervision. The key difference from a basic chatbot or classifier is that an agent can move from analysis toward action.

This matters because speed and consistency are valuable in defense, especially in large environments such as operational technology and critical infrastructure. But autonomy also creates risk: if the model is wrong, too permissive, or poorly governed, it can disrupt services or amplify mistakes. Real-world secure deployments therefore use human-in-the-loop controls, strict permissions, logging, and rollback options. Attackers can also abuse agentic systems to automate phishing, reconnaissance, or social engineering. In practice, the safest use is narrow, observable, and easy to override.
