Agent Interoperability

The ability of different AI agents and tools to work together across platforms with shared trust and access rules.

Agent interoperability is the ability of different AI agents, services, and tools to work together across platforms while sharing trust and access rules. In practice, it means one agent can discover another tool, authenticate to it, and pass data or tasks without manual reconfiguration.

This matters because interoperability can improve automation, but it also expands the attack surface. If permissions are too broad, a compromised agent may move laterally into connected systems, reuse credentials, or trigger actions it should not perform. Defenders reduce this risk with workload identities, short-lived tokens, scoped permissions, and revocation controls. Good logs and policy enforcement let teams see which agent acted, what it touched, and when access ended. In secure deployments, interoperability is useful only when every cross-platform connection is tightly authorized.
