Administrator-level access

The highest level of control in an application, usually including user, permission, and configuration management.

Administrator-level access is the highest privilege tier inside an application or service. It usually allows a person or process to manage users, change permissions, edit security settings, and alter system configuration. In many platforms, this level of control can also expose sensitive data sources, audit logs, and integrations.

In cyber security, this matters because compromise of an admin account often means compromise of the platform itself. Attackers try to steal or bypass admin access through phishing, password attacks, SQL injection, session theft, or misconfigured roles. Once inside, they can create backdoor accounts, disable protections, or expand into connected systems. Defenders reduce this risk with least-privilege design, strong authentication, separation of duties, logging, and rapid patching. Treating admin access as a high-trust asset helps limit the damage if an application is breached.
