The ad-tech ecosystem is the network of platforms, brokers, exchanges, and measurement services that buy, deliver, target, and track digital advertisements. It can pass information among websites, apps, advertisers, and vendors so ads can be selected for particular audiences or devices.
In cyber security, these interconnected services can expand an organization’s attack surface. Ad content may load scripts or make network requests, and an ad impression can reveal device or browser signals even when a user does not click. In a targeted attack, that infrastructure could help identify a device or direct it toward further systems; an impression alone, however, does not prove compromise. Defenders can reduce exposure by limiting third-party scripts and reviewing browser, DNS, proxy, and mobile-device telemetry for suspicious ad-related activity.
