Account validation

checking whether user or admin logins show suspicious activity.

Account validation is the process of checking whether user or administrator logins are behaving normally or showing signs of abuse. Security teams review sign-in patterns, privilege changes, locations, device fingerprints, failed logins, password resets, and unusual access times to spot suspicious activity. The goal is to confirm that an account is being used by its real owner and not by an attacker who has stolen credentials or taken over a session.

This matters because compromised accounts are one of the fastest ways into a network. In real attacks, adversaries often use valid usernames and passwords to blend in, move laterally, access backups, or prepare extortion. Defenders use account validation during incident response to decide whether to disable access, force resets, require multi-factor authentication, or watch for further misuse. It is a practical control that helps separate normal operations from early signs of intrusion.
