War bonds

Government-backed instruments used to raise funds, often in wartime.

War bonds are government-issued debt instruments used to raise money for wartime or other large public emergencies. Investors lend money to the state, and the government promises repayment with interest under defined terms. In practice, they are a funding tool: a way to move value from private holders into public finance.

In cyber security, war bonds matter when seized or recovered digital assets are converted into state funds. That process depends on secure custody, approved transfers, and an auditable chain of control. If wallets, signing keys, or approval workflows are compromised, irreversible blockchain transfers can misdirect public money. Defenders therefore treat bond-related finance as part of broader treasury security: strong access control, logging, segregation of duties, and clear legal authorization for each transfer.
