Wallet service

A platform that helps users store, send, or manage cryptocurrency.

A wallet service is a platform that helps users store, send, and manage cryptocurrency. It may hold private keys for the user, generate addresses, track balances, and coordinate outgoing transactions. Some wallet services are custodial, meaning the provider controls the keys; others are non-custodial and leave key control with the user.

Wallet services matter because they sit at the center of crypto access and movement of funds. In security terms, they are high-value targets: if an attacker gains access to wallet credentials, private keys, or recovery data, they may be able to steal assets or redirect payments. Defenders treat wallet services with strong access controls, hardware-backed key storage, multi-factor authentication, withdrawal limits, and careful separation from other systems. In real attacks, adversaries often target the wallet layer through phishing, malware, or server compromise because controlling the wallet can be more valuable than breaching a normal website.
