Wallet address

The destination identifier used to send cryptocurrency transactions.

A wallet address is the destination identifier used to receive cryptocurrency. It works like an account number for a specific blockchain, and it must match the coin or network being used. Because transfers are usually irreversible, a single wrong character can send funds to the wrong recipient or make the transaction unusable.

Wallet addresses matter in cyber security because attackers often target the copy-and-paste step. Crypto-clipper malware can watch the clipboard and replace a legitimate address with one controlled by the attacker, causing payments to be redirected silently. Defenders reduce this risk by verifying the full address before sending, using trusted wallet software, limiting clipboard abuse, and checking transaction details on a hardware wallet screen or independent device before approval.
