Vetrinizzazione sociale is a social dynamic in which people present themselves as if they were on display, shaping behavior for an audience rather than for privacy. In online spaces, this can turn identity into a public performance: posts, selfies, reactions, and status updates become signals that are constantly measured by others.
In cyber security, this matters because a highly visible self-presentation creates useful intelligence for attackers. Public profiles can reveal routines, relationships, locations, interests, workplaces, and emotional triggers, which supports OSINT, spear-phishing, impersonation, and account takeover attempts. Defenders also need to understand it because the same attention economy that drives oversharing can be used to guide safer habits: reduce unnecessary disclosure, separate personal and professional audiences, review privacy settings, and treat public visibility as attack surface. The term is therefore useful as a reminder that social behavior online can create security risk even without malware or a direct breach.
