Upload analysis

Server-side processing of a file after receipt, such as inspection, transformation, or metadata extraction.

Upload analysis is server-side processing performed after a file is received. An application may inspect its format, extract metadata, create a preview, or transform the file. These steps can make uploads useful, but they also cause the server to interpret untrusted input.

In cyber security, analysis is a trust boundary: vulnerable libraries, unsafe configuration, or excessive process permissions can turn a routine upload into a path to code execution or file writes. Attackers may submit crafted files that trigger flaws when an application invokes image or document-processing tools. Defenders should keep those tools and frameworks patched, restrict accepted formats and processing policies, isolate analysis jobs, and apply least privilege. Uploads should be treated as potentially dangerous throughout the entire processing pipeline, not only while being stored.
