Tumbling

Rotating or flipping in a repeated, unstable-looking motion.

Tumbling is repeated rotating or flipping motion that looks unstable or irregular. In engineering and security work, it can describe a device, component, or object that is no longer holding a steady orientation. For cyber security, that matters whenever motion data, machine control, or physical hardware is part of the system.

Defenders may see tumbling in telemetry from drones, robots, cameras, or other IoT devices when a sensor fault, bad calibration, or tampering disrupts control loops. Attackers can exploit that instability by forcing a device to lose orientation, trigger safety shutdowns, or generate noisy sensor readings that hide other activity. In malware analysis and incident response, unusual tumbling-like motion can be a clue that a system is being manipulated physically or that its sensors are being spoofed.
