TLS 1.3

A modern encryption protocol that protects data in transit with stronger confidentiality and integrity.

TLS 1.3 is the latest widely deployed version of Transport Layer Security, the protocol that encrypts data while it moves between systems. It protects confidentiality, integrity, and server authentication, making it much harder for attackers to read, alter, or impersonate traffic in transit.

In cyber security, TLS 1.3 matters because many high-value services depend on secure transport for logins, APIs, remote administration, and device management. When older protocols or weak settings are used, attackers may intercept credentials, downgrade connections, or tamper with control traffic. A modern TLS 1.3 configuration reduces those risks by removing legacy crypto options and tightening the handshake. In practice, defenders use it to secure management channels such as TACACS+ or other administrative services, especially on routers, AAA systems, and control-plane infrastructure.
