A Tier-1 queue is the first-line workflow in a security operations center (SOC) where incoming alerts are reviewed, prioritized, and routed. Analysts-or automated systems-perform initial triage, looking for useful context and signs that an alert needs deeper investigation or an incident response.
Effective triage helps teams focus limited time on the most important alerts. In real operations, a queue may be handled by human analysts, AI assistants that summarize alerts, or agents that can update tickets and advance workflows. The more authority an automated system has, the more important it is to enforce least-privilege access, require approval for consequential actions, and keep auditable logs. Teams should test queue-handling automation against false positives, ambiguous alerts, and maliciously crafted inputs before relying on it.
