A Telegram bot channel is a messaging path built around Telegram bots that can relay commands, status updates, or stolen data between an attacker and a compromised system. In practice, malware may poll a bot for instructions or send back results through chat messages, making Telegram a lightweight command-and-control channel.
This matters because it is easy to automate, hard to distinguish from normal messaging traffic, and does not require the attacker to run a custom server. Defenders often see it as outbound traffic to Telegram APIs, unusual bot activity from servers, or scripted HTTP requests from malware. In botnet operations, a Telegram bot channel can be used for tasking infected hosts, receiving system information, and coordinating follow-on actions. Monitoring egress, restricting messaging services on servers, and alerting on unexpected Telegram use can help spot this abuse early.
