Technical accuracy

The degree to which a portrayal matches how a system or process works in reality.

Technical accuracy is the degree to which a description or portrayal matches how a system or process works in reality. It includes representing a technology’s capabilities, limits, operating requirements, and procedures correctly-not merely using convincing terminology or equipment.

In cyber security, accuracy matters because decisions depend on realistic models of how systems behave. Fiction may show hacking or communications as instant and effortless, but real activity involves constraints such as access controls, configuration, signal conditions, and human procedures. Defenders rely on accurate technical explanations to assess threats, train staff, and choose effective controls. Simplified portrayals can be useful storytelling, but they should not be mistaken for operational guidance.
