Site access

The scope of websites an extension can interact with, which can be narrow, temporary, or broad depending on settings.

Site access is the set of websites or pages a browser extension is allowed to read or interact with. Depending on the browser and permission settings, access may be limited to a specific site, granted temporarily for the active tab, or extended to many sites.

These permissions define an important security boundary. An extension with broad access may be able to inspect page content or perform actions such as filling forms, clicking controls, and downloading files. Users and administrators should review requested permissions, grant the narrowest practical scope, and be cautious when an extension can act on sensitive pages. Site access describes capability, not proof that an extension has misused it.
