Schematic

A diagram showing how circuit components are electrically connected.

A schematic is a circuit diagram that shows how electronic components are electrically connected. It focuses on signals, power, and component relationships, not the physical placement of parts on a circuit board. Engineers use schematics to define what a device should do before moving to PCB layout and fabrication.

In cyber security, schematics matter because they are the blueprint for trusted hardware. A small change can swap pins, bypass protections, alter sensor inputs, or create hidden behavior that is hard to spot later. In real workflows, defenders review schematics for design integrity, compare them against netlists and footprints, and run electrical rule checks before manufacturing. If AI tools generate or edit designs, the schematic becomes a critical control point: it must be verified carefully, because a convincing diagram is not proof that the hardware is safe or correct.
