Public link sharing is a way to make a file or folder available to anyone who has its URL, without inviting each person individually. The link acts as a bearer credential: whoever obtains it may be able to access the content, depending on the service’s settings and safeguards.
In cyber security, this can expose sensitive data if a link is forwarded, posted publicly, or guessed. Attackers may search for or exploit exposed links to obtain information, while defenders can reduce risk by limiting link access, setting expiration dates, reviewing sharing permissions, and removing links when they are no longer needed. Cloud providers may also apply access checks or content policies to publicly shared material. Treat anything shared this way as broadly reachable, and avoid using public links for data that requires tightly controlled access.
