Prompt-framing

The skill of structuring instructions to get better and more reliable AI output.

Prompt-framing is the skill of structuring instructions to get better and more reliable AI output. It includes giving clear goals, relevant context, constraints, examples, and a required format so the model is less likely to guess or drift.

In cyber security, prompt-framing matters because teams use AI for triage, log summarization, threat hunting, policy drafting, and code review. A well-framed prompt can reduce noise and produce more useful incident notes or detection ideas. A weak prompt can create vague advice, miss important indicators, or overstate confidence. Attackers also use prompt-framing when they try to steer chatbots, abuse assistants, or shape malicious outputs through indirect prompt injection. Defenders use it to make AI tools follow security rules, cite uncertainty, and stay focused on approved data. Good prompt-framing is not just about speed; it is a control for quality, consistency, and safer automation.
