Procurement security

Security checks applied before buying or deploying technology.

Procurement security is the set of security checks applied before an organization buys, licenses, or deploys technology. It asks whether a product, vendor, or service can be trusted before it enters the environment, rather than after an incident forces a response.

This matters because modern hardware and software often arrive with firmware, remote management, telemetry, update channels, and third-party dependencies. If those pieces are weak, compromised, or opaque, the buyer may import risk into sensitive systems. In practice, procurement security includes vendor due diligence, supply-chain review, update-signing validation, data-handling checks, and restrictions on where a device can connect or send data. In cyber defense, it turns purchasing into a control point: teams can block untrusted products, require remediation, or choose alternatives that better protect confidentiality, integrity, and operational control.
