Podman is a container engine for creating and running containers. Unlike traditional Docker setups, it can operate without a continuously running central daemon, and it supports rootless containers that run with ordinary user privileges. These features can reduce the privileges and background services needed to manage container workloads.
In security work, Podman can provide a repeatable, isolated environment for tasks such as building custom operating-system images. For example, build scripts may use it to assemble a Kali image inside a container rather than directly on the host. Containers are not a complete security boundary, however: teams should keep the engine and images updated, limit container privileges, verify image sources, and test build outputs before deployment.
