Parallel data is a set of aligned text pairs in two languages, where each sentence or phrase in one language matches its translation in the other. Machine translation systems use these pairs to learn how words, grammar, and meaning map across languages. The better the alignment and coverage, the better the model can translate real text.
In cyber security, parallel data matters because translation quality affects how well tools can process logs, alerts, reports, and user content in different languages. Attackers may try to poison training data with bad or misleading pairs, causing weak translations or hidden mistranslations. Defenders use high-quality, vetted parallel data to build safer offline or on-device translation models, especially when sensitive text should not leave the device. For low-resource languages, curated parallel data is often the difference between usable translation and unreliable output.
