Organizational change management is the planning, communication, training, and support used to help people adopt new tools, workflows, or policies. In cybersecurity, OCM is important because security controls only work when users understand them and follow them consistently. A new identity tool, logging requirement, or AI platform can create risk if employees do not know how to use it safely.
OCM appears in real defenses through rollout plans, role-based training, executive sponsorship, help desks, and feedback loops that measure adoption and correct unsafe behavior. It also matters in attacks: social engineering often exploits poor change communication, confusing new processes, or weak user awareness. When organizations deploy generative AI, OCM helps explain approved use cases, data-handling rules, and escalation paths so that productivity gains do not turn into leakage, shadow IT, or policy violations.
