An offer window is the time period during which a plan, promotion, license, or service can be purchased, activated, or enrolled in. Outside that window, the offer may no longer be valid, even if the product itself still exists. In security-sensitive systems, the offer window is part of the control surface because it defines when a user is allowed to take an action.
Why it matters in cyber security: attackers often abuse short-lived offer windows in phishing and fraud, using urgency to push victims to click, sign up, or enter credentials before a deadline. Defenders use the same concept to reduce risk by expiring enrollment links, limiting activation codes, and setting clear validity periods for campaigns or subscriptions. A well-defined offer window helps prevent replay, unauthorized reuse, and confusion over whether a request is still legitimate. If dates or activation rules are unclear, users are easier to trick and systems are easier to abuse.
