A notified body is an independent third party authorized by law to assess whether a product, system, or process meets required conformity rules. In the EU AI Act context, it may be involved when a provider cannot rely on internal control alone and external review is required. The body examines evidence such as technical documentation, risk controls, testing results, and change records before the system can be placed on the market or used in scope.
For cyber security, this matters because the assessment depends on trustworthy artifacts. If training data, model versions, or logs are altered, missing, or poorly protected, the provider may fail to prove compliance and may also weaken operational security. In real defenses, teams treat notified-body review like a high-stakes audit: they lock down documentation, track model changes, preserve integrity of evidence, and align engineering, legal, and security processes so the system can withstand external scrutiny.
