Model oversight is the practice of reviewing an AI system’s outputs, behavior, and failure modes before trusting its recommendations. In cybersecurity, this means checking whether the model is accurate, biased, hallucinating, or missing context that a human analyst would catch.
It matters because security teams often use AI to triage alerts, summarize logs, and suggest actions. If those outputs are accepted without review, a bad recommendation can suppress a real incident, escalate the wrong account, or trigger an unnecessary response. Oversight is also a defense against adversarial manipulation, where attackers try to poison training data, prompt the model into unsafe actions, or exploit blind spots. Strong oversight uses human review, testing against edge cases, access limits, and audit logs so AI remains decision support rather than an unchecked authority.
