Mobile connectivity is internet access delivered over a cellular network, rather than through a fixed wired connection. A device such as a portable payment terminal uses a cellular modem and SIM or eSIM to communicate with online services while away from a wired network.
In cyber security, this connection makes devices more flexible but also dependent on cellular coverage, network availability, and the security of associated accounts and services. In payment systems, merchants should manage portable terminals as part of their trusted infrastructure: control who can use them, track device inventory, and reconcile transactions. Attackers may also target connected devices or their accounts, so reliable connectivity does not replace access controls, monitoring, or secure configuration.
