A managed database service is a hosted database platform that a provider operates. The provider typically handles infrastructure, maintenance, updates, and availability, while customers manage their data, queries, and access permissions. The precise division of responsibilities varies by service.
In cyber security, provider-operated infrastructure does not remove the need to assess database features and privilege boundaries. A narrowly permissioned account may still pose risk if built-in capabilities can be combined to reach sensitive functions. Defenders should review role permissions, restrict high-risk features, and understand how the database engine is isolated from its host. Providers, in turn, must secure the underlying runtime and enforce boundaries between customer databases and operating-system resources.
