macOS Privacy & Security is the Apple settings area where sensitive permissions are managed in one place. It includes controls for file access, automation, monitoring, camera and microphone access, and related privacy features such as Full Disk Access. These permissions decide which apps can see data, control other apps, or observe system activity.
It matters in cyber security because a single approval can greatly expand an app’s reach on a Mac. Attackers may try to social-engineer users into granting broad access, or exploit software that already has powerful permissions. Defenders use this panel to review what has been allowed, remove unnecessary access, and enforce least privilege. On a well-managed Mac, Privacy & Security is both a defense tool and a visible attack surface, because the permission prompt itself can become part of an intrusion path.
