A logic analyzer is an electronic test tool that captures and displays digital signals across multiple channels. It records whether each signal is at a logical high or low and shows how those states change over time, often helping users inspect timing and relationships between signals.
In cybersecurity, logic analyzers can help researchers and hardware engineers examine how devices communicate over interfaces such as UART, SPI, or I²C. During analysis of a suspected compromised or malfunctioning device, captures may reveal unexpected commands, altered timing, or communication between components. Defenders also use them to debug and validate hardware behavior. Unlike an oscilloscope, which shows voltage waveforms, a logic analyzer emphasizes digital states and channel timing; it may not reveal signal-voltage details or electrical noise.
