ld-prime is Apple’s newer linker path in Xcode workflows. A linker combines object files, static libraries, and other inputs into a final Mach-O executable or library. In practice, ld-prime sits in the middle of the build pipeline and reads many file formats before an app ever runs.
This matters because build inputs are often supplied by third-party dependencies and should be treated as untrusted. If ld-prime or a parser it relies on mishandles malformed archives, the result can be a build crash, broken CI jobs, or error logs that expose small fragments of process memory. Attackers may try to trigger these failures with crafted .a files or object files. Defenders reduce risk by updating Xcode and related tools, isolating build workers, limiting log access, and validating new archives before they enter shared pipelines.
