Interface mediation is the way a form, board, API, or workflow shapes what information people or systems can observe, enter, transmit, and record. Its fields, labels, defaults, and validation rules define which details become part of the usable record-and which may be left out.
In cyber security, interface mediation matters because incomplete records can weaken monitoring, investigations, and AI-assisted decisions. For example, a reporting form that lacks a field for a particular event may prevent analysts from identifying a pattern; an API schema may discard context during an integration. Defenses include reviewing interfaces and data pathways for missing or unrepresentable evidence, documenting limitations, and providing escalation routes when records are incomplete. A model can only assess the information its workflow makes available.
