Infrastructure sharing

a model in which multiple organizations use the same physical or logical telecom assets.

Infrastructure sharing is a model in which multiple organizations use the same physical or logical telecom assets. This can include cell towers, ducts, fiber, radio equipment, or network functions. Sharing may reduce costs and avoid duplicate construction, while allowing organizations to provide separate services over common resources.

In cybersecurity, shared assets create dependencies between organizations. A configuration error, compromised management system, or outage affecting common infrastructure may have consequences for multiple users. Defenders should clarify who operates and secures each component, restrict and monitor administrative access, coordinate incident response, and assess how shared assets affect redundancy and service continuity. Sharing does not itself imply a weakness, but it makes clear ownership and aligned security controls especially important.
