Image reconstruction

Software processing that turns raw sensor data into a finished image or video.

Image reconstruction is software processing that converts raw sensor data into a finished image or video. The input may come from a camera sensor, infrared detector, or another imaging device that records measurements rather than a ready-made picture. Reconstruction steps can include demosaicing, filtering, noise reduction, channel mapping, sharpening, and color balancing. The result looks natural to a human, but it is always derived data, not a direct photograph.

In cyber security, image reconstruction matters because many systems trust visuals as evidence: surveillance feeds, access-control cameras, inspection tools, and forensic exports. If the reconstruction pipeline is misconfigured, tampered with, or poorly understood, the output can misrepresent what the sensor actually captured. Attackers may abuse that gap by hiding detail, altering appearance, or misleading automated vision models. Defenders should document the capture path, verify processing steps, and treat reconstructed images as processed evidence rather than raw truth.
