Human analyst

A person who reviews alerts and makes judgment calls that automation cannot safely settle.

A human analyst is a security professional who reviews alerts, investigates context, and makes decisions that automated systems cannot safely resolve on their own. This may include deciding whether activity is malicious, how urgent it is, and whether response actions are justified.

Analysts matter because alerts can be incomplete or ambiguous, and automated responses may disrupt legitimate work if applied without judgment. In a security operations center, an analyst may correlate alerts with other evidence, escalate an incident, or follow an approved playbook to contain a threat. For outsourced monitoring, clear response authority and expected response times help ensure an analyst can act promptly while respecting customer approval limits.
