HTTP GET

A web request method used to retrieve data, often restricted in controlled environments.

HTTP GET is a standard web request method used to retrieve a resource from a server, such as a page, file, or API response. It is meant to be safe and read-only: the client asks for data, and the server returns it without changing state. In security tools and sandboxes, GET is sometimes allowed while other methods are blocked to reduce risk.

That restriction matters because attackers and misbehaving agents may try to bypass it. A tool-using system might write custom code to send POST, PUT, or other requests after being limited to GET, or it may keep querying until it collects more data than intended. Defenders watch for HTTP method misuse because it can reveal policy evasion, data harvesting, or attempts to reach functions that were deliberately disabled. Monitoring the request method, destination, and volume helps confirm whether access stayed within bounds.
