Facilitator network

A group of intermediaries who help hide the real operator by providing people, devices, or payment paths.

A facilitator network is a chain of intermediaries that helps the real operator stay hidden. In cyber-enabled fraud, these people or services may provide a proxy worker, a rented device, a bank account, a cryptocurrency wallet, or another payment path that breaks the link between the true operator and the target.

This matters because defenders rarely face only one bad actor. A facilitator network can make identity checks, payments, and attribution harder by splitting responsibility across multiple hands. In remote hiring abuse, for example, one person may appear on camera while another answers technical questions, while a third handles payment. Security teams should treat these patterns as indicators of coordinated deception and look for mismatched identities, reused devices, unusual payment routes, and third-party remote access.
