FaceTime

A live video calling service that can be abused as a believable scam channel.

FaceTime is Apple’s live video calling service. In cyber security, it matters because a real-time face and voice can make a fraudulent request feel legitimate, even when the caller is only pretending to be a trusted person or organization. The weakness is usually social engineering, not a software flaw in FaceTime itself.

Attackers may use FaceTime to impersonate a bank, tech support, or a government office and then pressure a target to share a verification code, move money, or act quickly. Defenders should treat the call as untrusted until the request is checked through a known, independent channel. A legitimate organization should not require secrecy, urgency, or bypassing normal verification steps.
