An external battery is a separate power source that supplies energy to a device, typically through a cable or other electrical connection, to extend its operating time. Unlike an internal battery, it sits outside the device and may need to be carried or managed separately.
In cyber security, external batteries matter when they power cameras, sensors, phones, or other equipment used for monitoring and field operations. Longer runtime can keep a security device working through an extended task, but adds another component and connection to protect and check. Defenders should use compatible power sources and inspect cables and connectors; in real attacks, tampering with or disconnecting a device’s power supply can interrupt its operation.
