Experimental validation is the process of checking whether a prediction or hypothesis holds up through laboratory experiments, benchmarks, or measurements in real-world conditions. It turns a plausible result into evidence that can be assessed and, ideally, reproduced.
In cybersecurity, validation helps determine whether a tool, model, or claimed defense works beyond a demonstration. For example, researchers may test a detection model against held-out data and live traffic, or measure whether a security control blocks attacks without disrupting legitimate activity. Reliable tests depend on sound data, documented methods, and traceable software and model versions. Without those safeguards, results may be misleading or difficult to reproduce.
