Event streaming is the continuous flow and processing of records about activities-such as a customer updating a profile or placing an order-as they occur. Producers publish events to a stream, and downstream applications can consume them to trigger actions or update data without waiting for a scheduled batch.
In cyber security, this speed can support timely detection and response, but it also means errors or unauthorized events may quickly affect connected systems. Attackers may exploit weak access controls or inject forged events; misconfigured integrations can also expose data or trigger unintended actions. Defenses include scoped credentials, authenticated producers and consumers, schema validation, consent checks, and audit logging. Teams should define which systems may publish, read, or act on each event stream.
