ESET Management Agent is a legitimate endpoint management component used in enterprise environments to help administrators deploy policies, collect status, and manage protected systems. Because it is a trusted security-related process, it may be allowed to run in environments where many other binaries are restricted.
That trust makes it attractive to attackers. In real intrusions, threat actors may abuse the agent’s process name or loading behavior to hide malicious activity, especially through DLL side-loading or other file-path hijack techniques. Defenders should not treat a known management agent as proof that a host is clean; they should verify loaded modules, file locations, hashes, and unexpected DLLs near trusted executables. Monitoring these details helps distinguish normal enterprise management from malicious masquerading or payload execution.
