An encrypted item is data packaged so its contents cannot be read without the proper key or authorized access path. It may be stored or passed between system components in this protected form rather than as ordinary, readable text. Encryption helps protect sensitive information, but does not by itself guarantee that the data is handled safely.
In AI systems, hidden reasoning or other protected state may be represented as an encrypted item. Features that compress, rewrite, or restore conversation context must preserve that protection; a faulty transformation could expose content in readable form. Defenders should test these workflows, enforce access controls, and verify that sensitive data remains protected across storage and processing.
