Electronic signature software

Tools that support signing workflows and identity verification in digital transactions.

Electronic signature software supports digital signing workflows and helps verify the identities of people approving or signing documents and transactions. It may use cryptographic certificates, such as those managed through public key infrastructure (PKI), to protect signatures and establish trust.

These tools are common in banking and other digital services, so they can become part of an organization’s trusted endpoint environment. Attackers may try to exploit a software flaw or misuse its normal behavior as one step in a larger attack; the presence of the software alone does not prove it is defective or compromised. Defenders should keep it updated, monitor unexpected processes or activity, and restrict which applications can run.
