A dynamic Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) is a software component inventory that is refreshed as code, dependencies, builds, or releases change. Unlike a one-time inventory, it can provide versioned records closer to what was actually included in each shipped product.
In cybersecurity, this helps teams quickly identify which products and releases may contain a component affected by a newly disclosed or actively exploited vulnerability. It supports triage and incident response, including time-sensitive reporting, but does not by itself prove that a product is exploitable. Teams should validate findings against product configuration and whether vulnerable code is reachable, then keep SBOM generation connected to build and release workflows.
