Drug discovery

the process of finding and developing new medicines.

Drug discovery is the process of finding and developing new medicines. It usually starts with identifying a biological target, then screening compounds, refining promising candidates, and testing them for safety and effectiveness. Because the work involves huge chemical search spaces and complex simulations, it often relies on high-performance computing, GPU clusters, and specialized software to rank candidates or model molecular interactions.

In cyber security, drug discovery matters because it concentrates valuable intellectual property, sensitive research data, and expensive compute infrastructure in one environment. Attackers may try to steal formulas, experimental results, or trial data, or disrupt research with ransomware and tampering. Defenders protect these systems with strong access control, encryption, network segmentation, audit logging, and integrity checks on data and code. When GPU emulators or other advanced tools are used to prototype discovery methods, security still matters: the models and results must be protected, and the computing platform must remain trustworthy and reproducible.
