Detection strategy

A high-level approach for spotting malicious behavior, before it is translated into concrete monitoring logic.

A detection strategy is a high-level plan for recognizing potentially malicious behavior. It describes what activity defenders should look for, without yet specifying the exact query, rule, or alert needed to find it in a particular security platform.

In practice, teams translate a strategy into analytics using available telemetry, such as identity, endpoint, network, or industrial-control-system logs. The strategy guides threat hunting and helps identify monitoring gaps; the resulting analytics need to be tested and tuned for local conditions to reduce missed activity and false alarms. A strategy is a defensive blueprint, not proof that an attack occurred.
